Introduction

The goal of this blog is to create a forum for discussing, gathering, and debating ideas outside the mainstream of the architectural cognoscenti.

I define mainstream as the pervasive thought of the last 100 years engendered by the educational, intellectual, and media elite, that architecture (or at least, big "A" architecture)solely exists within the realm of so-called "modern" style.

While "modern" style buildings have trickled into the fabric of our lives in seemingly innocuous ways, it cannot be ignored that the roots of this style were born in studios and ateliers whose goal was to create a socialist utopia of building through government run mass-production.

This ethos found fertile ground in our nation's academia where now, almost, wholly is taught without counterbalance or discussion of "traditional" styles despite the well-chronicled ills of modern design when it came to urban renewal and the success of the new urbanism movement of traditional town planning.

It is now, without question, and I believe to the detriment of architects that our national organization the American Institute of Architects (AIA) has a tremendous bias promoting projects that are so-called "modern." I hope to build an online resource here that documents this pervasive bias.

Your friend,

Nimsay
